AHCCCS’ (Arizona’s Medicaid) Navigating the Behavioral Health System tool explains how to stay safe when calling 911. https://www.azahcccs.gov/AHCCCS/Downloads/Calling911.pdf

If appropriate call Mental Health Crisis number Crisis Information and talk to a crisis team member.

If you are calling 9-1-1 for a mental health crisis ask for a Crisis Response Team (CIT) member; they have special training in deescalating crisis situations.

Answer all of the operator’s questions honestly.  This will help to keep everyone safe.

Turn on the lights in the house or at the location and open window coverings.

Have nothing in your hands when they arrive. Try to stay calm and answer all of their questions.
